A Supreme Court judge in Brazil ruled Friday to block popular messaging application Telegram nationwide, barring one of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro’s favorite communication channels.

Durov said that a Brazilian court ruled to block Telegram because local authorities sent requests to remove what they considered illegal content to the messenger’s old email address.

“As a result of this misunderstanding, the court ruled to block Telegram for the lack of a response,” Durov said.

He asked the Brazilian side for a few days to correct the situation and promised to appoint an official representative of Telegram in Brazil.

“On behalf of our team, I apologize to the Supreme Court of Brazil for our negligence. We definitely could have done a better job,” Durov added.
