The search and long rescue operation at collapsed church building at Akyem Patabi has finally come to an end.
– The Church building collapse led to loss of lives.
According to reports by the local authorities, an in-depth investigation aside from the assumptions of the weak structure of the church building will be conducted. At the end of the in vestigation, all perpetrators will be brought to book and dealt with accordingly.
The death toll remains at 22 out of 30 persons retrieved from the rubble of the Church of Prosperity in the Eastern Region’s Akyem Batabi.
The search and rescue have been going on for 4 days now dating back to October 20. Rescue workers searched overnight for worshipers reported to be praying in the building at the time of its collapse.
In response to the Church building collapse, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has disclosed that the search operation will collaborate with the agencies to investigate the incident.
“We want to assure him [DCE] that NADMO will coordinate all the relevant agencies to support his call for investigations so that all the culprits will be punished,” he explained. He then officially ended the Rescue operation at Akyem Batabi expressing his condolences to the families who lost relatives in the accident.
Reports at Yebekagh.com have revealed that some injured persons are still at hospitals receiving treatment while dead bodies have been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital morgue.
