A Student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has shared an article on Coronavirus as well as some ways to identify or better still prevent it.
Read the article below.
In past decades, several viruses have jumped from animals to humans and have triggered sizable outbreaks claiming thousands of lives.
This time around a deadlier virus called the Coronavirus has spread its wings so wide upon the earth and is currently driving outbreaks around the globe. This has never been seen or recorded in world history.
Over thousands of people across the globe die every single day. The earth is wailing and there seems to be no solution to this pandemic disease most especially in our part of the world, Africa.
People infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness such as difficulty in breathing without requiring any special treatment. Also headaches and sore throat.
How does the virus spread?
Covid-19 spreads primarily through droplets of saliva, discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Also when a person touches a surface or an object that the virus has come into contact with and unknowingly touches his or her face afterward.
Now, the virus remains on an object for several hours and days and it takes a period of 14 days for visibility when one is infected.
Symptoms include difficulty in breathing, sneezing, dry cough and also high fever.
Some precautionary measures to protect yourself from coming into contact with the virus.
- bathing twice daily
- exercising frequently
- eating fruits and vegetables
- washing your hands with soap under running water for about 20 seconds
- avoid touching your face
- keeping a safe distance
- staying home
- covering up your nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and disposing of it immediately
- use alcohol-based sanitizers in rubbing the hands.
As a concerned citizen of my country, I entreat the government, all stakeholders and NGOs to help provide sanitizers and good clean water in rural communities to help reduce the spread of the virus and educate the natives on the causes, signs, symptoms and preventive measures to curb Coronavirus.
“Prevention they say is better than a cure.” You reading this as well can also reduce the spread of the virus by taking good care of yourself and taking good precautionary measures.
