The final year students who are still receiving treatment for the locally transmitted COVID-19 will sit for the 2020 WASSCE in designated classroom blocks, the Deputy Director for the Ghana Education Service (GES) has said.
– WASSCE at isolation centres only for students infected with COVID-19.
– All COVID infected final year students have recovered but some don’t show symptoms.
– They are asymptomatic and with be allowed to write WASSCE at isolation centres.
The Deputy Director, Dr Kwabena Tandoh speaking on Accra-bases Atinka FM’s AM Drive said the Education Service has liaised with GES to reserve a place for the WASSCE at isolation centres which he referred to as “isolation examination centers” in schools having students with cases of the virus.
Dr Kwabena Tandoh explained that all infected final year students who have registered for the ongoing WASSCE will write all their subject papers in these isolation examination centres.
According to him, no student will be disadvantaged as a result of the locally transmitted coronavirus, adding that “although most of the students who contracted the virus had recovered”, but there are others who are asymptomatic and do not show signs of COVID-19.
GES has designated place for the WASSCE at isolation centres in all schools which recorded the Coronavirus. The “isolation examination centres” will accommodate all students who were infected with the virus and are yet to recover.
“We are working together with the health experts and we assure all parents that no students will be disenfranchised as a result of coronavirus,” the Deputy Director explained.
Dr Kwabena Tandoh further urged parents of students who are yet to recover from the novel coronavirus to exercise patience. Their wards will not be prevented from taking part in the WASSCE exams.
