High School DxD, a prominent member of the Ecchi anime genre, brings a unique blend of elements to the table. High school student Issei is brought back from the dead after a tragic first date. His saviour, however, is a devil, and now he must serve her and her entire family.

While it’s no secret that Ecchi anime tends to feature more nudity than your average series, there’s more beneath the surface with High School DxD.

    Surprising Depth

For those who may not be avid followers of the Ecchi genre, High School DxD might offer more than you’d expect. The standout feature of this anime is its storyline. It’s not just about titillation; there’s a compelling narrative at its core. Admittedly, I wasn’t anticipating much in terms of story when I started watching, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The storyline in High School DxD has a certain grip to it. It’s not just about the superficial; there’s an underlying romantic aspect that adds depth to the narrative. This unexpected dimension makes the show more engaging than you might assume.

    A Work in Progress

At the time of writing this review, I’m approximately 80% through the series. My perspective is based on my preliminary examination, and I plan to revisit and edit this review once I’ve completed the entire show. This ensures a comprehensive assessment, taking into account the full story arc.

As of now, I’d rate High School DxD as an 8 out of 10. It’s important to remember that this anime is not for everyone, primarily due to the significant amount of “adult” content. It’s best enjoyed in the privacy of your space, given the explicit nature of certain scenes.

    Final Thoughts

High School DxD offers more than meets the eye. It defies the stereotypes associated with the Ecchi genre by presenting a storyline that’s genuinely captivating. While I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, especially those uncomfortable with adult content, I’d suggest giving it a chance if you’re in the mood for a unique blend of Ecchi and an engaging story. If you find yourself with some free time and nothing else on your watchlist, High School DxD might just surprise you.
