Independence Day is an official state holiday celebrated by the Ghanaians and the Ghanaian diaspora, which is celebrated on March 6 every year.
This day marks the declaration of independence from the British Colonial rule led by Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah on 6 March 1957. Independence Day has been set aside to remember that occasion.
Over the years, since Ghana attained independence on March 6, 1957, the country’s annual celebration to commemorate the day has always been held in the capital at Independence Square.
Today Kumasi has witnessed a grand ceremony held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with the President himself His excellency Nana Akuffo Addo gracing the occasion.
Critics say Kumasi nationals have never seen a helicopter before. However, no one has uttered statements saying the event will be a flop because enough preparations have been made these past few weeks to make the event a successful one.
