The harrowing case of Nnanyereugo Benjamin Best, also known as Killaboi, has taken a new turn as he was apprehended in Sierra Leone after months on the run. In a heart-wrenching revelation, Cordelia Okonye, the grieving mother of Augusta, a 21-year-old model, has shed light on the chain of events leading to Killaboi’s arrest.
Killaboi, infamous for his involvement in a tragic incident involving the murder of Augusta, was captured in Sierra Leone, a significant breakthrough in the pursuit of justice.
According to Ms. Okonye, Killaboi fled the country following the shocking incident in which her daughter lost her life. He allegedly went to great lengths, adopting fake identities to obtain a passport, facilitating his escape from the authorities.
“Best killed my daughter on July 13 and got a Sierra Leonean passport on July 28. He was eventually arrested yesterday (Thursday),” Ms. Okonye disclosed, highlighting the timeline of these distressing events.
In a heartfelt Facebook video shared on Saturday, Ms. Okonye revealed the relentless pursuit of justice for her beloved daughter. Faced with indifference and inaction, she decided to take matters into her own hands by distributing a passport photograph of Killaboi to her relatives. This act would ultimately lead to his capture.
“As the story unfolded, my cousin in Sierra Leone informed me that ‘I saw somebody like him.’ Without delay, my son and a cousin traveled to Sierra Leone,” she explained, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. “A day before my son and cousin arrived in Sierra Leone, Killaboi was declared wanted, and he was already hiding in the country. The commissioner of police was contacted.”
Ms. Okonye has been unflinching in her claims that Killaboi was responsible for her daughter’s tragic death. She went on to allege that the social media influencer callously left Augusta’s lifeless body unattended, allowing it to deteriorate while retaining possession of her phone.
The chilling episode dates back to July 13, 2023 when Killaboi, a 26-year-old who was previously arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2021 for internet fraud, confessed on social media to the accidental stabbing of his girlfriend during a heated argument. He later fled out of fear and expressed suicidal thoughts.
Months after this shocking incident, the Lagos State Police Command officially declared Killaboi wanted on October 10. The arrest in Sierra Leone marks a significant development in this heart-wrenching case.
