Pep Guardiola has played down suggestions that Lionel Messi could join him at Manchester City and believes that Messi will end his playing days at Barcelona.
Messi has spent his whole career with Barcelona but has a clause allowing him to leave for free this summer.
Guardiola left Barca for Bayern Munich having become their most successful manager, with 14 trophies in four seasons. He won three La Ligas and two Champions League coaching Messi at Camp Nou between the years 2008 and 2012.
He proceeded to win three successive league titles in Germany and has won the Premier League for the last two seasons with Manchester City, although this season they lag behind Liverpool by 22 points with only 13 games remaining.
Manchester city Boss Guardiola said “He will stay there [at Barca], that’s my wish,”
“I think he will finish his career there.”
Messi, who has won the Ballon d’Or player award six times, 10 league titles and four Champions Leagues, is under contract until 2021.
But he spoke out this week against Eric Abidal Barcelona’s sporting director after the he accused players of not working hard under former coach Ernesto Valverde.
Barcelona are three points behind Real Madrid in La Liga but Guardiola will not be drawn on the apparent unrest between Messi and Abidal. In addition he said: “I’m not going to talk about players for other clubs.
