The Management of the Damango-based Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School has arranged for each student established to be involved in the mass destruction of school property in Thursday protest to pay at least GHS 1000 for repairs, the Municipal Director of Education has said.
Apparently, about 356 final year students of Ndewura Jakpa SHS are to settle the cost of destruction at a sum of GHS 1000for reportedly vandalising the schools’ property during a demonstration against the management and examination officials on Thursday, August 6, 2020.
They during the protest destroyed the lighting system, louver blades of the school administration and also removed parts of the ceiling of a new six-unit classroom block handed over to the school to end double track.
They protested against the 1.5-meter social distancing sitting in the examination hall to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibreel in an address to the students said they won’t be able to access their WASSCE result if they fail to pay the bill.
“It saddens me that such a thing has happened in Ndewura Jakpa SHS Technical school and it’s going to be a scar on 2020 candidates of Ndewura Jakpa SHS… the school is going to take an assessment of the level of destruction you have made and bill you at the end of the day. Your results will be blocked by the school on the internet until you settle the debt”.
Municipal Director of Education, Mr Ferguson further criticized the students for their actions and register his dissatisfaction of the incident.
“You are in the news all over the country, it’s rather unfortunate the whole directorate is not happy about what has happened and I will not miss words I’m really disappointed so I don’t even understand why you should be complaining about the spacing. We were here on Monday even compare to other schools yours is even closer” he said.
