Nigerian High Commissioner To Ghana Pays Courtesy Call On Vice-Chancellor

The Acting Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, Mrs. Esther Adebola Arewa together with a delegation has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chargé D’affaires Mrs. Esther Adebola Arewa mentioned that as part of their 3-day working visit to interact with Nigerians in Kumasi, her outfit seized the opportunity to visit management of KNUST and interact with Nigerians on KNUST campus.

The Nigerian High Commissioner, Mrs. Adebola Arewa said that her outfit would use the occasion to familiarize with Nigerians in KNUST and know how best they can support their welfare. Nigerian staff and students in KNUST shared their grievances and challenges they face. The main challenge was procedures involved in renewing their passports or other services related to their citizenship. Her Excellency assured that her office would work together with the office of the Dean of students to enable registration and renewal of passports available in Kumasi. ‘Forms would be given to all Nigerians in KNUST, so that the commission can have an updated database of their citizens in Ghana’, she said.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her gratitude to the commission for making time to check on the welfare of Nigerians (both students and staff) in KNUST and Management of the University.

She added that as part of the vision, management is looking forward to work on internationalisation in the era of COVID-19 where there would be an interface that allows students in Nigeria to become more exposed to what is being done in KNUST. She expressed the optimism that the office of the Nigeria High Commission would be helpful when the need arises.

The Vice-Chancellor also assured Her Excellency that the effective collaboration that exists between KNUST and Commission would continue to grow and be expanded into other areas.

Others present at the short ceremony included the spouse of the Acting High Commissioner Mr. Arewa, the Counsellor, Mr. Daniel Tonibor, and the Consular Officer, Ms. Amina Bolujoko.
