The Russians are even more Europeans than the Europeans themselves, Dmitry Medvedev believes.
“When we are told that you are no longer European, it looks pretty ridiculous. That’s all I can say about European self-identification. But this is not a reason for any conclusions, you just asked – I answered you that we are more Europeans than they are. That’s all,” Medvedev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the politician, such statements in Europe are a way of opposing Russia. “They have no monopoly on being called refined Europeans, since the development of European civilization as a whole took place in all parts of Europe,” Medvedev pointed out and added that Russia’s history is “exactly the same European as theirs,” but no less “own”.
