The University of Ghana’s Dean of Student, Professor Godfred A. Bokpin has tasked student leaders to submit documentation detailing the roadmap to transition from one administration to the next.
Following the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in Ghana and the subsequent closure of all educational institutions, student leadership has come to a standstill.
The situation has particularly disrupted most electoral processes among student leadership setups.
In a digital conferencing meeting on Zoom with student leaders on Tuesday, May 5, Prof. Bokpin directed the leadership of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and all officials of the various Junior Common Rooms (JCRs) to submit to his office documentation detailing the intention of the various student groups on how to carry out the remainder of statutory activities, especially elections given the inconvenience of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I want all leaderships who haven’t handed over yet to submit to me, how you intend to go about this. How you intend to transition to the next leaders. It is important” – Prof. Bokpin said.
According to the Dean, the intervention has become necessary to ensure the continuous and smooth running and handing over of the SRC and JCR.
“We know that we are in this so we have to find a way to make this work. We have to make sure the leadership structure is not broken. If not after this pandemic, we will be in serious problems” – he said.
Prof. Bokpin, however, gave Friday, May 8 as the deadline for the submission of the roadmap to his office.
“I hope that by Friday you can submit the documents to my office so that I can take a good look at it” – he added.
