Rapping about fucking bitches, drinking wines, and taking drugs was not what Hip Hop/Rap was about. Hip Hop was Gangsta Rap, G-Funk, and the FUNK music’s growth.

Early East Coast hip hop in the early 1980s suffered since it was so new at the time, but the music was still fantastic. Then, in the 1990s, Hip Hop became a genre, a form of music that made inner-city residents (particularly African-American and Hispanic residents) aware of all the issues they were facing. It was like a folk genre, full of protest songs like those delivered by folk artists like Pete Seeger in the 1960s.

Hip Hop was eventually commercialized, and the music business viewed it as a cash cow and capitalized on it. Things began to deteriorate, and now we find ourselves in a situation where every rapper is rapping about the same thing, with “ZERO” innovation in these rap songs. Compare and contrast the songs of Masta Ace, Nas, Tupac, and Biggie with those of today’s rappers like Future and the Gucci Gang.
